When you are pregnant gum problems and teeth damage happen more often. Pregnancy makes the level of progesterone in the body to be ten times higher than the level in women that are not pregnant. This higher level also makes the growing of bacteria in the body to get higher. This makes the gums bleed faster and makes them more sensitive. Also, you are more likely to get gum disease. With proper dental care, your teeth need not give you problems during pregnancy.
It is common for a pregnancy to be accompanied by nausea, especially in the first weeks or months. If you suffer from vomiting, it is best to clean your mouth with water first because stomach acid is the reason for a lot of damage to the enamel of your teeth. You probably want to brush your teeth immediately afterwards to get rid of the bad taste. It is better not to do that.
So take extra care of your teeth during pregnancy. And pay an extra visit to the dentist and prevention assistant / dental hygienist. Inform your dentist about your pregnancy before the check-up or treatment.
