Tuft Brushes

Brushing your teeth is the basis for keeping your mouth healthy. But with only an (electric) toothbrush you cannot really clean the space between your teeth. If the spaces between teeth are large, a tuft brush can be used. These brushes that go between the teeth you can buy in many different sizes. It is important to choose the right size and type of brush. A brush that is too small does not clean enough; a brush that is too large can damage the teeth and gums. If there is enough space, the brush can also be used crosswise and then they are much more effective. There are also brushes that are tapered (like the end of a pen). With these brushes, spaces of different sizes can be cleaned. The dentist or dental hygienist can advise you which size spiral brush is most suitable in your case.

How to use?

  1. Hold the brush between thumb and forefinger
  2. Slowly push the brush between the teeth, but do not force the brush
  3. It must be a bit difficult to use the brush, but the hard centre must not touch the tooth
  4. Move the brush horizontally forward and back a number of times (from outside to inside)
  5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for all other spaces between the teeth.
  6. Clean the brush well with water after use and dry it (the brush can be used several times)
  7. Replace the brush when the bristles are worn or bent

Use the brush at least once a day if it fits well in the space between the teeth. It is better to use dental floss for very small gaps and toothpicks for small gaps.

When you start using the brush, it may be painful and the gums may bleed. Do not get scared by this, this is because the gums are inflamed. If you continue, the gingivitis, and therefore the pain and bleeding, will disappear. Note: Doing oral cleaning too much or not correctly can damage the teeth and gums.
