Fillings

Fillings

Do you have a molar with tooth decay (caries), a broken molar or a filling that needs to be replaced? That problem can be helped with a filling. Making a filling is in general a simple dental procedure. The treatment may take place with an anaesthetic so that it will not trouble you.

In the past, fillings were made from a metal-coloured filling material (amalgam). At Dental Practice Diemen-Zuid we only work with filling material in your own colour (composite). Because for handling composite you need a dry working area, a rubber patch (called cofferdam or rubberdam) is used. After the filling has been made, its surface is polished so that the tooth feels smooth again.

Afterwards you can immediately eat and drink again, because the filling materials get hard on the spot. If you have had an anaesthetic you should pay attention not to bite the cheek, tongue or lip. Sometimes a filled tooth or molar can still be a bit sensitive after treatment, but that usually disappears quickly.
