Implants

Implants

Implants are a type of artificial roots that are placed in the jaw like a screw to replace an absent tooth root. A crown, bridge or overdenture can be placed on an implant.

When is treatment with implants possible?

In principle, implants can be placed on anyone. It is important that the jawbone and gums are healthy and there must be sufficient jawbone for fastening the implants. Smoking and too much alcohol consumption reduce the success of the treatment.

What material are implants made of?

Implants are made of a body-friendly material such as titanium. Sometimes implants are provided with a ceramic layer.

Maintainance of implants

If implants have been placed in your mouth, good daily oral hygiene is extra important. Regularly clean the area around the implant using dental floss. The use of special antibacterial cleaning materialsis often recommended for this purpose.

Checking teeth with implants

After the implant has been placed, the dentist will look into the health of your gums, the situation of the jawbone around your implants and wear of the crown, bridge or prosthesis during the check-up.
